About Toto
The band Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also highly acclaimed studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) as well as bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from the Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
In 1981 Toto's third album Turn Back was a complete failure, but they rebound with their fourth album Isolation which contains two hits including the title track and Roseanna. The album and their tour helped them become a household name around the world.
After a gap of few years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. It's a change from the ballads of previous albums and includes some heavy rock. This was their first platinum album in North America.
During the recording of the band's fifth album, the band loses their manager and are put in financial difficulty. They decide to change their name and create a new album with an entirely new producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.
In 1999, the band released Mindfields and embarks on an extensive tour across the globe. After several weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band's coverage of Africa on their recent tour. Toto's touring lineup includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.

It was the first time all of the original Toto members appeared on stage together in over 31 years. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.
