About Toto
The band Toto was formed in the year 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians who worked with Boz Scaggs at the time) and bassist/singer Bobby Kimball. The group took their name from the Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was not a success in 1981. However they came back with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and tour makes them a household name throughout the globe.
After a brief hiatus, Toto returns with the album Fahrenheit. It is a departure from the ballads of their previous albums and includes some heavy rock. It was their first platinum album in North America.
In the course of recording the band's fifth album the band loses their manager and is put in financial difficulty. They decide to record a brand new album and change their name with a different producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, is now replacing Fergie Frederiksen as lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman and gives the band a much-needed boost.
The band released Mindfields in 1999 and goes on a major tour across the globe. After a few weeks in Europe, the band heads to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief hiatus, Toto resumes their recording and release their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993. The album features a cover of Weezer's hit song Hash Pipe as a response to the band covering Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band includes drummer Lenny Castro and bassist Shannon Forrest along with keyboardist Shem Von Schroeck.
